HASTINGS, This Day.— Douglas Bros, homestead at Temahanga was completely destroyed by fire yesterday afternoon. The fire, which commenced in the laundry, was fanned by a strong wind and quickly spread to the main buildings, containing thirty-four rooms. These were totally destroyed and the outbuildings, ''.storeroom, green house and pumping , shed were also gutted. The insurance on the buildings was £3OOO on the Union Office and on the furniture £7OO in the Standard Office. Very little "was s<ived. ROWDY NO-LICENSE MEETING. AUCKLAND, This Day.—At a. Nolicense meeting at St. Benedict’s Hall last night, Hon. Geo. Fowlds was Chairman and there were five speak- ■ ers, who spoke amidst considerable interruption and disorder. The resolution by one of the audience on behalf of tlie University students present protesting agciinst -speakers advertised as representing the University, was handed to the Chairman who declined to receive it.
