WESTLAND PRESBYTERY.
QUARTERLY MEETING
ihe ordinary quarterly meeting was held yesterday in St. John’s Manse, the Kev. 11. Stewart, Moderator, in the chair, and there was almost a full attendance of members present. Messrs 11. Pa ton and 11. Kerr, Scottish evangelists, were present, and wore cordially welcomed by the Moderator in the name of the Presbytery. Elder’s commissions were received from Hokitika, Ross, Ktimara and Westport, and the names of the representatives were added to the roll, A considerable amount of correspondence of n routine nature was dealt with. Mr. J. .1. Heard, of 11 runner ton, was authorised to solemnise marriages and Mr. R. Blair . Home Missionary at Henniston. was authorised to administer the Sacraments, and also to solemnise marriages . Very gratifying reports were received from all the Home Mission stations. The committee set up to frame a minute expressive of the ex-clerk’s (Rev 11. Stewart) services during the last fifteen years, presented their report, and the minute was put upon record. It will be published later on. The Rev. T, Miller, M.A., reported that the Rev. J. Lowery had resigned Henniston, and that Mr. R. Blair, a vc’\y capable Home missionary had been appointed to succeed him. A resolution expressive of entire satisfaction with Mi. Lowery's work, and wishing him till success in his future was placed on record. Mr. .1. A, Thomson resigned the charge of Runanga, in order to proceed to Hunedin to enter upon a course of study for the ministry. It was resolved to express satisfaction with his work m Runanga, and. that the clerk furnish him with the u sual certificate. A most cordial vote, appreciative of tile valuable services rendered by Messrs Raton and Kerr in the various evangelistic missions held by them, was carried by acclamation, .and the evangelists suitably addressed the Presbytery. It was resolved to entertain the exclerk to luncheon tit next meeting and present him on thut occasion with some tangible token of the esteem in which be is bold for his long and faithful ser- \ ices. It was arranged that the next ordinary meeting should be bold in the Manse. Hreyniouth, on the second Monday in .Inlv next, after which the meeting was closed with the Benedict ion.
