A question about the electrification of the Lyttelton tunnel drew the following reply "from Sir Joseph Ward in Parliament last week : —The experiments that are being conducted on various railways on which electric traction has already boon established, for determining the best class of motor and method of colctrifieation of the railways, are being carefully watched, and as soon as all doubts in regard to the most suitable class of motor and a standard adopted in the older countries by those railroads which are using electric traction, tho question of electrifying certain railways in this colony will be further considered. In tho meantime it is not deemed desirable to expend money on appliances that in tho course of a year or two will in all probability be obsolete in so far as railway traction is concerned. At the Masonic Hall, Hokitika, yesterday, a very interesting function took place, when the Westland Kilwinning Royal Arch Chapter No 29 was dedicated and constituted in due form. There was a large attendance of Companions, and tho Installing Grand Principals were :—M.E. Comp. H. J. Williams, P.G.L., as G.L.; V.E. Cornp, J. H. Harkness, P.L., as G.H.; M.E. Companion Rev. T. Porritt, P.G.L. as G. J.; V.E. Comp. H. L. Michel, P.L., as G.D.C. The sole ceremony of consecration was very impressively conducted, tho service being fully choral. Subsequently the Chapter was dedicated, and thereafter tho Principals of the Chapter were installed.
