DR BANARDO'S HOMES.

In acknowledging the receipt of £39 10s. from Mr T. Brown of this town, Dr Barnardo (since deceased) writes as follows: "Thank yon with all my heart for your contribution to our funds! It is most timely, besides being very welcome, for it arrives at a season of keen financial pressure and even anxiety. Grateful, indeed, am I, therefore, for such a proof of svmpathy and support as you have sent me. With 8,500 children to feed and clothe daily, it may he imagined that our need is great and pressingly urgent. I enclose my official recoipt for your acceptance.

"It will, I think, interest you to knowthat we have now placed out 17,267 emigrants in the colonies, where our failures have been under two per cent Already this year we have emigrated 1.107 boys and girls, and we hope to send out. about 700 others before the. season closes. Each of these young people will cost £lO for outfit and travelling expenses, so that the large sum of £7OOO will be rcrrnirod to carry out our intentions. But it is not easy to over-estimate the splendid chance of success which emigration affords to a, boy or girl who goes out under such conditions as our children do !

"I am delighted and encouraged to know that the eau.se of the children is being taken up so heartily in your locality. "I should be glad if some expression of my cordial gratitude could .he. conveyed to the contributors of the amount yon have forwarded, and especially would T desire to thn.uk the young friends connected with the Cobdeii school for fo kindly giving a concert in aid of the Home."
