VOICE TRAINING:
The Secret of Genius.
Dr. Ottmar Rutz, of Munich, is respond le a new theory of genius, toin'j considerably farther than the ordinary Monist doctrine, which as riles all physical abnormalities to the condition of the ganglions of the nervous system. According to Dr. Kutz, the muscles of the thorax and abdomen (these embrave the entire body as apart from the head and limbs) are at least equally important in their elfect upon the mind. This conclusion he reaches somewhat indirectly. He begins by showing that the belief that the qualities of the voice are determined by the throat and mouth is entirely wrong. Tli3 voice, he says, depends primarily upon the working of the body muscles and upon' the qualities of the body as a resonance box. Speech from the thorax (chest) and speech from the abdomen are the two scientific .classifications, and they correspond to the maried differences of temperament and mind. From this point Dr. Rutz argues that the finest and deepest racial characteristics can be explained by the working of the body muscles: He ecplans that mental differences between Cocthe and Schiller an 1 o'her equally delicate physical d stinctions can all le accounted for in tae tame way, and argues thr.t vo.ee training should be* reformed on this new principle 1180.
