COLLINGWOOD COUNTY COUNCIL.

The Council mgt on Monday last. Present: Crs Buchanan (County Chairman) Fish, Riley, Washbourn and James. Minutes of previous meeting were read and confirmed. . correspondence. ’ From Mr Harding, assistant Engineer of Works Nelson, re £ for £ subsidy on Main Road, that the balance of this subsidy could be applied to deficiency on Aorere Bridge if not-used otherwise. (The amount is about It was resolved to apply the balance, less liabilities since incurred, to the object named. From H. R. Heslop asking fur permission to take gravel from Council’s pit.—Granted, on the motion of Crs Fish aud James. From H. F. Logan, drawing attention to bad state of Stanton’s Creek Bridge.—Resolved, on the motion of Cr Fish and the Chairman, that the Engineer report on the bridge. From E. B. Langford, asking permission to erect a gate on byroad at Baiukain. — Permission granted, on the motion of Crs Fish and James. Cr James made a similar request on behalf of Cr Flowers and Mr T. E. Exton, in respect ot a byroad beyond Swamp Road to Kohiteretere. —Granted. From 11. Parry, asking for repair ot culverts on Swamp Road. —Resolved that the work be done. Outward correspondence (two letters from the Chairman in re the Kahuna-Paturau Track) was read and approved. FINANCE. Accounts totalling 14s 7d, being chiefly wages, were pa.sed for payment, a large number being held over on account of shortage of funds. ' INTERVIEWS. Mr G. Hickmott attended asking for repairs to road alongside river at Lower Kaituna. —Resolved* that one team and one mau be put ou for two days. , Mr F. C. Richardson attended to ask if balance of money due to Gillespie on his contract (cancelled) ou the Rua Tauawha bridge would be paid to Mr E- T. Riley, who held an order for the money.—Resolved that any money coming to Gillespie in respect of the coutract be paid to E. T. Riley, Mr Richardson also referred to the mining properties valuation list, to which two objections had been lodged, and would be dealt frith on 28th April. GENEKAE RATE. Cr Fish moved that the general rate for the current year be 1 l /i<X in the £ aud that of this amount be used to pay oh the Bank overdraft. —The Chairman seconded. Cr Riley moved that the rate be 1 J£d as before. —Cr James seconded. After discussion, the amendment fras carried.

TENDERS Resolved that T. Harvey’s .tender, 4/- per yard, for supply of gravel on Ferntown-Pakawau Road be accepted subject tp'lhe approval of the Department concerned. Resolved to invite fresh tenders for work on James’ By-road—to close at next meeting. genera 1.. Order of Business. —On the suggestion of Cr'Washbourn, it was resolved to revise the method of conducting the Council’s business at meetings, to take effect at next meeting. • * The Engineer was instructed: To report on repairs required to road beyond Stanton’s Creek, on the motion of Crs James and Washbourn. —'To prepare plans a'nd specifications for new work at Mangarakau, —on the motion of the Chairman aud. Cr Washbourn.

—To lay off work on Inland Road (about £$ o worth), on the motion of Crs Washbourn ‘ and James. —To prepare plans, etc., for expenditure of grants Upper Aorere and Bonny Doon Roads —to close at next meeting, on the motion'of Crs* Fish and Washbourn. —To inspect and report on Bridge near old Police’Station, Haven Road. — To get a barrel of tar for the Council’s use.

Resolved, oti the motion of Crs Washbourn aud Fish that the Mi’nthorpe Road be repaired by the dayman. Resolved on the motion of Crs Riley and James, that the fallen trees on road to Nguroa be removed by Mr A. Davidson', at a cost ot 10/-. The action of Cr Fish in having two days work done on road near C. Lammas’ was ratified —on the motion of the Chairman and Cr Washbourn.

Resolved, on the motion of Cr Fislj that a man be put on Bainham Roads for a week ; and that Mr Squire’s request for repairs to road there be acceded to.

Resolved that Cr Fish be empowered to repair bridge at foot of Heyward's Hill. Unpaid Rates. —Resolved that all rates unpaid as at that meeting be sued for forthwith. Resolved that the usual annual vote of £SO for upkeep cf roads and tracks ou Taitapu Estates be granted.

Clerical Work. —The Chairman said it was absolutely necessary to have a junior clerk in order to

transact the Council’s business properly. He moved in that direc-

tion. —Eventually the matter was deferred till next meeting, owing to the absence of two Crs. —ln the meantime the Clerk to employ temporary clerical assistance. Resolved, on the motion of the Chairman, to rescind all motions in regard to rates of wages to be paid to workmen, and that the Engineer use his own discretion in regard to the matter.

Resolved, on the motion of Crs

James and Fish, that tenders be called for supply of 250 yards of gravel to repair road at Rockville —l5O yards ou the eastward and too yards on westward side of Aorere Bridge. Resolved that Cr James get repairs effected to road at Avery’s Hill.

Resolved that Mangarakau Bridge

be repaired.
