At a meeting of the Collingwood School Committee held last night it was resolved to ask the Nelson Education Board for a grant of £IOO for the purpose of providing a new class room at the school, the present accommodation being considered too limited for the requirements of the scholars. It was also decided to erect a flagpole, and have certain repairs effected in and about the school ; and the Chairman was deputed to confer with the teacher as to complaints about excessive punishment lessons being given to small children.

A special meeting of the local Miners' and Labourers' Union is advertised to take place on Saturday next, 28th. instant.
