Taitapu Gold Estates.
A very pleasant little function was performed at Taitapu last week, the ceremony consisting of a presentation from the workmen of the Estate to Mr Fulton, late Manager, who has resigned his position and is taking his departure for another colony. The desire of the men was to obtain an illuminated address, butowingto the distance and inconvenience, this could not be done, and the presentation therefore took the form of a purse of sdverigns. The whole of the workme.i assembled at the ceremony, and Mr H. Billings occupied the Chair. The Chairman, during the course of a fluent and taking speech, said the pleasant duty fell to him of making the presentation to Mr Fulton, on behalf of the employees of the Estate, as a mark of the esteem in which he was held by the men, and as a token of the good-will which existed between men and master. He could conscientiously say that during his stay at the mine Mr Fulton had done his best for the Company's interests as well as for the workmen, and he was sure what was this Company's loss would be another's gain. He concluded by wishing, on behalf of the workmen, long life and happiness to Mr and Mrs Fulton, whether they stay in New Zealand or whether they " cross the briny. Mr Fulton suitably replied thanking the men for their expressions of goodwill towards himself, and, referring to the recent trouble between the men and the Company in regard to wages, said that no matter what part of the world he was located in he would bo perfectly satisfied to give any of those workmen ho was leaving behind a job if they came along. Three cheers were then given for Mr and Mrs Fulton.
Refreshments, abundant and, toothsome, supplied by Mrs Harry Flowers, were then greatly partaken of, and songs and other forms of amusement indulged in. The proceedings termnated with three lusty cheers for Mis Flowers, for the sumptuous and capable manner in which she had providtd relre.sh-uenfcs.
