COLLINGWOOD LICENSING BENCH.

The adjourned meeting was held on Monday, 4th inst., at noonv Present: Messrs R. N. Allan (Chairman), R. P. Riley, Sutton, and Fisher. Minutes of last meeting were read and confirmed.

Letter read from the Under Secretary Justice Department, notifying that Mr L. Sutton had been appointed to the Bench, viceF. Stallard, resigned. Mr G. W. Riley appeared, and stated that his house for which a license was roquested, was not completed. He asked that a license be issued and hold by the Chairman until the house be finished to the satisfaction of the Inspector. The Inspector said that if a license was once issued the licensee could demand it. If the house was completed first it would be more satisfactory. Application adjourned for 14 days. The Inspector raised the question of allowing Mr Riley to carry on his bakery business on the licensed premises. He produced legal advice on the subject from Pitt and Moore, which stated that a license could not be granted while a bakery business was carried on on the premises, and quoted section 44 of the Act in support of the contention. Mr Riley contended that the bakery was distinct from the other Duilding, and agreed to take any risk there might be attached to letting the bakehouse remain where it is at present. After some discussion, it was resolved that the Committee do not wish to interfere in the matter.
