LORD TYRRELL’S RETIREMENT fAust. and N.Z. Cable) Rugby, Feb. 26 Following the appointment of Sir George Russell, Ambassador at Brussels, to tie Ambassador Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary in Paris in succession to Lord Tyrrell, who is shortly retiring, newspapers pay high tribute to Lord Tyrrell’s great services.
The Times says that his retirement is an obvious loss to British diplomacy and adds that Lord Tyrrell lias always taken so keen an interest in domestic politics that lie will not lightly he allowed to disappear from public lift- altogether.
Deep personal regret is felt in official circles in Paris at the news of Lord Tyrrell’s retiremtnt and all Paris newspapers emphasise the value of his work in maintaining cooperation between Britain and France in the post-war European discussions.
It, is understood that Sir George Russell will undertake his new duties in April- He was appointed to Brussels last year after having served as Ambassador in Turkey since 1926.
