On the Quota Imposition BY THE DAIRY BOARD STRONG REASONS GIVEN FOREIGN SUBSIDIES, NONE IN NEW ZEALAND (Per Press Association) Dannevirke, February 28 Speaking at a meeting of dairymen on the subject of the quota Mr Irons chairman of the Dairy Control Board Raid the Board’s attitude was definitely to oppose it. New Zealand was the only country, outside of Canada where the dairy producer was not subsidised by the Government. Even the Danes bad a subsidy and their Government subsidies made dairying possible. Danish butter teas excluded from Germany but was permitted to be landed in England, yet New Zealand butter was to be put on a quota. Tf Britain’s trade with foreign countries was stabilised and these cut out their subsidies there would he no need for a quota and our butter would go up 2d or 3d a pound. Although he knew nothing definite, he had holies from hints reported to have been dropped by heads of the Government that there might be some improvement in our prospects in tile near future.
