T he Australian horso has a specially prepared stall at the Laurel race track. DOING SOLID WORK Feu horses at Ellerslie are doing better than King- March, who is getting through a solid preparation in view of his engagements at the Avondale meeting next month. This horse has not won a race for some considerable time, but his second to Spcedihint in the Jcllicoe Handicap last month was a useful performance, and he may do better now that the going is getting tinner. The fact that King March is always running- on at the end of his races is a bit in his favour, and he will be well suited by the long straight at Avondale. AUSTRALIANS IN ENGLAND The Australians have been doing well in England recently. One of them is Stanley Wootton, who saddled up three* horses at Kempton Park last month. and won with each of them. Oil the second day B. Ro6k, A. Smirke and J. Crouch, who are apprentices to Wootton, rode four winners among them. The other Australian referred to is Norman Scobie, son of the noted Victorian trainer, James Scobie. Norman is private trainer to Sir Charles 11\do. The stable won a double at Lewes, taking- the two chief events. At Birmingham three days later the stable had another success, making its sixtieth for the season. GOLD TRAIL IMPROVES Gold Trail is moving along nicely on the Hastings tracks, and has lost all signs of the dry * coug h that troubled her last season. PH A R LAP’S BROTHER Reports from Ricgarton state that Phar Lap’s brother, Friday Night, has grown into a good looking colt. He is not being- hurried, and will not be raced until the autumn. JUDGE AT FOXTON The judging- at Foxton tomorrow will be done by Mr M. B. Berg-in, one of the club’s stewards, in an honorary capacity. DOING GOOD WORK Royal Shift, Swift and Sure and Speed are galloping well on the* Hastings track in view of competing at the Wellington spring fixture. NOT YET' READY Havering- is again- a regular worker on the I lawera tracks, but is big in condition and will need some racing before he gets into racing form. Davis also rode Daunt in the last Wanganui Derby in 11:89.7, this race being replaced the- following year by the Guineas. R. McTAVISFI’S APPEAL The appeal of the jockey. R. He began slowly, but a brilliant finishing run, which landed him in third place, suggested that he will improve before long oji any form he has yet shown.
