RULES OF GOLF

REVISION APPROVED NO DRASTIC CHANGES (Aust. and N.Z. Cable) London, September 26 The Royal and Ancient Golf Club unanimously approved the revised golf rules, which will come into operation on January 1. They were drafted after consultation with the United States and Dominions. There are no drastic changes, the alterations being chiefly aimed at making the wording of the present i ules. clearer. The most notable alterations govern the flag-stick rules for, match play, in which now either party is entitled to remove the flag. A more generous lifting of loose- impediment is also allowed l , and certain rules have been regrouped. Another important adjustment enables, the special rules for match play to be absorbed in the genera] rules. Tlie chairman of the championship committee, Mr Boa.se, reported! that the committee was unable to reach a decision regarding amateur status, whicli is still under consideration.
