Newman this afternoon, in his official capacity as member of the Railway Hoard, in Jin endeavour to brin.ir to the board's notice the serious fall in the prices obtained by the sheep farmer and the lack of corresponding reduction in freight on live stock. Mr T. A. Duncan, of the Meat Producers Board, was present by invitation. Mr R. Gordon presided.
Numerous speakers pointed out to Mr Newman the difficulties at present being experienccMl by the sheep farmer, and the fact thar railway freights almost made stock transport. by train prohibitive. They asked that they he accorded some relief, as lial been accorded ihe dairy farmer. for instance
In liis reply. Mr Newman said he was sympathetic with what had been said, but that the board's position was llie first consideration of its members. He would, however,
undertake to i>lace the deputation’s views before the l»oard.
