SURFING TRAGEDY
Men Caught in Undertow TWO LIVES LOST (Aunt, and N.Z- Cable.) Sydney, October 2. Tilic first surfing (tragedy -of tine season occurred yesterday at Scarborough on the spirt h coast. The victims were Jack Stanton. 22 years of age. and James Tomlinson. aged id, of Wentworth ville. Taw others, Rita Tomlin s on. and Geoffrey Harper, who participated in tile rescue efforts, nearly lo 3 t their lives ,a.nd were t-liemselvel' taken from the water in a senii-eon-seious condition ; they arc now recovering. All were members of a church picnic party enjoying a day at tlie seaside. Tho swimmers were carried seaward bv an undertow. The first to, get into difficulties was a small hoy, resulting in Stanton and Tomlinson losing their lives m an attempt to reach him.
