Samuel renewed his attack on the Government in connection with miners widows’ pensions. He declared that Air. Coates (realising at the same time the clause relating to this subject in the National Expenditure Adjustment Hill was under consideration that tlie Government was in a dilfieult corner and was apprehensive of defeat) had given a definite promise that (lie pensions would be restored. “It is no use* the Prime Aliuister shaking his head,” Air Samuel said as Mr. Forbes sought lo contradict, “because every time he does so lie convicts himself of negligence at least.”
