Smith) said that more than 2-5 per cent of tlie L.tal revenue of the State is spent by the Ed.r lea t. ion 1 >epu rt m cut. Tll the last 15 years while the general expenditure of the State had increased 109 per cent., that- of the Del partmont had risen 206 per cent. HIGH SCHOOL FEES STATE MAY IMPROVE THEM It is reported in some quarters the ’Government investigation jn the ecst of education may result in the in position of high school fees in N.S.W . The Government lms already decided to discontinue the issue of free text books aid lias also effected economies in other directions hi the 3>ejjurtment, but a-ny attempt to re-nn-pose school fees is certain ho meet wilK strenuous opposition.
