" FOUR YEARS’ IMPRISONMENT (Per Press Association). Wellington, Sept. 0. VA shocking case,” was the sum-ming-up of Mr Justice .MacGregor when Frank Clark appeared before him in the Supreme, Court to-day Tor sentence on ten charges of breaking and entering with intent to commit a crime, and on e charge of theft. After muling a long statement made by’ the prisoner, .who was not represented by counsel, his Honour said that Clark’s whole history was almost a continuous record of crime. Born in Wellington in 3892, lie was given six strokes of the birch in 1907 for theft, and was sent to an industrial school, where he remained until lie "'as 21 years of age. During that period, according lo his statement, lie was very harshly treated, and instead of being reformed h e became hardened and made into what he was at the present time. His Honour reviewed tlie prisoner’s, record in New Zealand and Australia, and said that it was difficult to kno>v what to do with a man of his sort. Apparently he could not keep out of gaol. On the theft charge a conviction was entered, and on each of the other charges tlq* prisoner was sentenced
