POLICY OF COLLABORATION
A STEPP INO STONE CONDEMNATION REJECTED (Aust. and N.Z. Cable) Belfast, Sept. 0. The Trades Union Congress debated Ibe Mond-Turner Conferences upon the following motion: “That tbi s congress declares its opposition to tbe false cry of industrial peace and a. policy of collaboration with the enemies of Labour, who are ruthlessly attacking the standard of living of the working classes while engaged in conferences with die Gen- ( ernl Council, and instructs the Council to end the conferences forthwith.” After Mr Bovin had strongly defended the conferences the motion was rejected by a large majority. The Daily Herald, commenting on the debate, emphasises Mr Bovin’s addendum and says that trade unionists cannot, stop at. a mere discussion on wages. “Trade union leaders are as good as employers’ leaders any day of (be week and just as capable of bolding their own in conferences. Recommendation upon trade union recognition. victimisation, conciliation • boards and unemployment, represent a substantial victory for trade union principles. Tb P M-orid-Turner conferences ar P only the stepping-stone, to a wider and more representative form of organisation. It now rsts with the employers’ organisation to decide whether the proposals shall be scraps of paper.”
