LONG NIGHT IS OYER

THE SUN IS COMING UP CONDITIONS IN ANTARCTICA IT IS STILL VERY COLD By Telegraph-Press Assn-Copyright (Aust. anrl N.Z. Cable) (Received Sept. <i, 9.55 a.m.) (Copyright—By . Byrd Expedition) Bay of Whales, Sept. 4. Although the sun is getting higher above the horizons every day that does not mean the weather is warmer. As a matter of fact OOdeg. below zero is not uncommon with us. To-day is calm and clear with hardly a cloud in the sky. The sun is shining brilliantly several degrees above the horizon, but tl»e cold is 48 deg. below zero. It is very unpleasant when facing an almost imperceptible breeze. .Work is proceeding indoors all the time, however, and the aeroplane crows are .getting the material ready for an overhaul of the aeroplanes just as early as possible. But we are thankful for the sun, although at present it lias brought colder weather. In a few mor 0 weeks the barometer will begin to go down in earnest.
