At. the Competitions to-night the results were as follows in the Church Choirs yßegg Shield: Wesley choir, Feildiiiig, (A. It- Shelton) 83 points Wesley choir, Island Bay, 82 points 2. A CUT TIC’S COAIAfENTS There Avas some beautiful singing in the church choir contest, in which three choirs competed (says the Dontytiion). Each had to sing (a) an anthem, (b) a. hymn, three voices, both own selection, the prize being the challenge shield prevented by. Begg and Co. The pieces rendered were: Wesley Choir, Feilding, eonduetor A. It. Shelton, (a) ‘ 'O Gladsome Light,” (b) “Lead, Kindly Light,” St. Hilda’s Choir, Island Bay, conductor, C. E. Proctor, (a) “The Radiant Aloj-n,” (h) “Fierce Raged the Temped.” Wesley Church Choir, Island Bay, eonduetor It. H. Dellow, (a) “Comes at Timex a Stillness,” (b) “Jc.su, Lover of Aly Soul.” THE JUDGE’S REMARKS The choirs were excellent, raid the judge, who wished more had entered, as it gave choirmasters an. opportunity to drive home .some points of expression which mode singing in the churches effective. The conductor of Si. Hilda's did good work, hut the choir did not come up to his leadership.
