(Per Press Association) Hardings, September 3. Mr Archibald McLean, one ol the oldest colonists of Hawke’s Bay, died this morning at his residence at Greeniiill, aged 83Born in Argyllshire, he came to New Zealand m 1868, settling at ALaraekakoha, or which station ho was appointed manager by the la to Sir Donald McLean, in 1870. During his 30 years’ control at Alnrnekakaho he founded sheep stud; in merinos, Lincolns and Leicesters, as well as in Shorthorn rattle, Clydesdales, and Welsh ponies. He retired ini 1900 to Greonliill. Mr McLean was a. promniont member of tho A. and P. Society, of which ho was a past-president, and wa.s one of the founder,- of lona College. His wife • predeceased him by 14 years. FATHER. OF FOOTBALL (Aust. and N.Z. Cable) Melbourne. —H. C. Harrison, tho father of football in Australia, and originator of the Australian game." .Ho played in Victoria, South Auidralia, Tasmania, and Wrist Australia. He was 93 yers of age.
