WOMAN BEFORE COURT
“WE WANT PUBLIC TO KNOW”
A well dressed woman, Cecilia Wilkes, 48, came before Air F. K. Hunt, S.M., at the Police Court in Auckland on a charge of wilfully detaining a registered letter containing five £1 notes and a 5s postal note, the property of -the Postmaster-Gen-eral, at Ohra on Atai'ch 14. On the application of Detective Hammond, accused was remanded to appear at Taumarunui on September 6. Bail was allowed. Air Rice, who appeared for accused, asked that her name should he suppressed. " “Why should it he suppressed? Everyone, who comes up here will expect the same- thing,” said the Magistrate. Air Rice said the woman had a good defence to the charge. “Oh, no, I Will not make an order for suppression in this case. ,Tf sir,* has a good answer she can give it at Taumarunui. We want the public to know that the detaining of letters is wrong,”, said Mr Huht ,
