SWIMMING CLUB

SOCIAL LAST NIGHT PRESENTATION OF TROPHIES Mr J. G. Eliott, M.P., Patron of the Club, presided at the» Feikling Amateur Swimming Club’s' social held in the Oddleliows’ Hall last night, when there was a large, attendance, especially of the younger enthusiasts.

Speaking on the activities of the ■Club during the past. year, Mi Eliott said they had been specially .successful, particularly in the way of catering for the children and the district. The schools taking advantage of the offer of free bathing made by the Club were: Manchester Street, Lytton Street, Convent, Mil's Spain’s, Agricultural High School; Taonui, Bunnythorpe, Bulls, Stauway and Halcombe. A large number oi certificates had heeus oi> t-ained during the season by learners. fn competitive swimming the Club had most suecea-ful results. Miss B. Harford won the intermediate ladies’ and junior Mnnnwatu championship, and with Miss W ■ Dcwe had qualified for N.Z. standard certificate*'-'. The Club’s repiosenta lives had competed at caimyals at. Manawatu Centre, N .M.C.A. (Palmerston: North), Foxton, Marion Taihape, Pahiatua, and 'Wanganui, and were successful on each occasion In diving competitions W. Cochrane and R. M din tosh, had proved practically unbeatable, having won everywhere m the Centre, also at Marton and Taihape The ( lub held four carnivals during the season (one under the jurisdiction of the Manawatu Centre/, all ol which were successful. The thanks of the Committee, were due to the many loyal supporters. Mr Eliott specia.lv mentioned Mesdames K. H. Fisher, Sliorle. Dewe, and Telford, who had gone, to no much trouble to provide for the comfort of visiting and local competitors at eariuvais. These jadies could not he praised t»>e much for their help so cheerlully given. They were ihe Club’s most valuable asset. lo Mr H. Parsonage the Secretary, the Club owed much. His enthusiasm for the sport was one of the lea tin es of Feilding. and they were lucky in have such an expert willing to give his time to the affairs of the Club Thanks were also due to the pres,-, for publicity generously given.

During the evening songs were given by Miss I Cielaml, Miss r> - Dewe, Mr A. Drew, recitations by Master Billy Shannon, exceedingly clever skipping rope dance, bv Miss Joyce Hayward, boxing exhibitions by the Sutton twins and G. Molls v. A. Lnwreusen and a ventriloquial turn by Mr \Y. Gray, who created the greatest amusement with hts fresh jokes and skits:. The accompaniments were played hv A 1 iss Gifford and Mr A. Feeney.

The trophies won during the year were presented.-—-Lady Champion, Mirs B. Harford; men’s champion. R, Mclntosh ; Fade Cup,'H. Dewe. Supper, supervised by the Ladies, Committee was enjoyed and the younger ones had a few (lances before dispersing.
