Sir.-—I was shocked tor find id God’s Own Country the awful housing conditions some of the wage earners have to Hive under. In a township in the Feilding district I called at a place and in the following conditions a range with a. huge crack across the top, lotting most of the ashes into the oven, a bath without a bottom, the water spouting fhil of holes causing the water to run, under the house, holes in the floor to let up the bad smell and the rats. In this hovel lives a. mother doing her best to bring up five young children and paying 8s per week rent. -

In another was a poor woman without a range doing her best Mo cook the meals on an open fife. When a certain wind blows she cannot light a fire at all. She was obliged to get a man to mend the roof to prevent the rain washing them out; biit was told by the owner she must bear the repair expense herself. Making further inquiries T was surprised to learn that the owner of these places , is a wealthy man childless, enjoying all the- good Ihingis, of ibis world, including a wireless set and electric range.
