The Lithuanian revolt 7 *"was organised by the Leftists, with the object of overthrowing the Government.
The town of Tnuroiiggeii, between Riga and Tilsit, as well as other small towns and villages were for 14 hours in the hands of the rebels, who disarmed the poliee and occupied the barracks, and stations.
They also .summoned other towns
1o join them. The Government promptly proclaimed a. state of war. rushed troops from Kov.no and M'emel and instituted * press censorship.
The prompt, action resulted in the revolt being suppressed. It is reported that many were killed or wounded.
The leader. Captain Maijus, was recently expelled from the arnrv.
Other prominent insurgents escaped.

Further details tell how Captain Maijus, who was recently* cashiered on account of his Communist activities, made a surprise attack on the police headquarters at Taurange. He liberated the prisoners, who assisted in a raid on the local bank, seizing bundles of Lithuanian and American notes. They also entered Government establishments, but were dispersed on the arrival of the military from Me me I.
Shots were exchanged, rtwo of the raiders being killed.
