The opinion that the Government, if it lias the power, should absolutely prohibit attempts to cross the Atlantic in aeroplanes if the machine are not so constructed as to he capable of landing iw the water and float ing for 21 hours, was expressed by Sir Keith Smith, the famous Australian aviator, who arrived from 'Wellington. yesterday on a visit to Christchurch. No land machines should be allowed to tackle such fl'ghts, he said.
