EMPIRE BROADCASTING
THE AIA RCUSE EXPERIM ENTS
SOME AIORE HARD LUCK (Aust. and N.Z. Cable). (Received Scut. 12, 2 p.m.) London, Sept. .11. Fifty Australians, disregarding breakfast, sat in ihe Columbia Gram. aphone Studio watching a microphone and wondering; whether Air Marcuse's first Empire broadcast was reacl'img Australia. Then came a breakdown. The condenser suddenly failed, causing the generator to blow out and the plant, which had -hitherto stood the severest teats, was mute for 50 minutes. It was something of an achievement for Air Ala reuse and his two assistants' to rig an emergency supply from the public mains, but Unecessitated the cutting down of the programme by half. As all the items)were being picked up by valve sets in the Sontli of England, there arc strong hopes that most of them got through. Air Ala reuse, undismayed, says he will continue his pioneering work and is sanguine of ultimate success.
