THE VEGETABLE GARDEN.
WHAT TO DO TO-DAY. 1 Plant, spray and earth potatoes as 1 they require it. Any seed for later planting should be put to sprout. 1 Autumn-sewn onions should be planted as the ground gets into con- < dition. The present is a good time to < sow onion seed. ' Asparagus will soon be pushing 1 through, and tho beds should be : weeedd, and kept weeedd from now < oa. Plant artichokes now. This useful < crop gives as good a return as pota- ! toes, and, not being affected by disease, is more reliable. * 1 Carrots, parsnips, turnips, lettuce, i and radish are amongst the seed that i should bo sown now. ' Digging and hoeing is very necessary in the vegetable garden just now, for the ground has been beaten down. Peas that are up should have a little soil pulled up to them, and sticks should be put to them. This is a good time to plant fresh asparagus beds. This plant does best if planted just when it is. beginning to grow.
