THE LIBERTY LOAN.

SIR.JOSEPH DELIGHTED

Wellington, September 4. Sir Joseph Ward will make a detailed statement regarding the loan within a few days. When stating to-night that the ai'iount already received had exceeded 15} millions, he mentioned that tho laigest single subscription was £250,----000. There were a- a fair numbor of large subscriptions, but a substantial proportion of the total was provided by the relatively small investors. Over three millions came through the postal money-order offices. The result of the loan "appeal is a very gratifying success, and removes all apprehension regarding the ability of the people of the Dominion to complete the 22 millions required for this financial year's war expenditure. The Treasury' will continue to accept subscriptions for some time, and it is likely that the sale of War Certificates and Post Office Bonds will be continued till the end of the year at least. PRIME MINISTER'S TRIBUTE. Premier Massey made the following statement on the subject of the loan: "The result of the loan proposals is another proof, if proof were necessary, of the steadfast loyalty of New Zealanders. and, needless to say, is very gratifying to the Government an I everyone concerned. The organisation was good/and the spirit manifested by all classes right through the Dominion was very fine. The present prosperity of the country was, of course, a" very important contributing factor, but behind it all was the will , and the splendid patriotism for which New Zealand is rightly celebratedjust a touch of that .spirit which anilrates Brtions in every part of the Empire, and which on the Western front is steadily driving the Huns back to Germany. This is the spirit which in the end will bring victory to Britain and Britain's Allies."
