The Government Meteorologist telegraphed to-day;;— Summary.—The barometer has fallen very low in the south, and a storm area has overspread the Dominion. High temperatures are reported on the East Coast and much rain and fog on the west. North-westerly winds prevail, with gales in many places. Forecast. —Present indications are for cloudy weather, rain generally, and, snow following higher levels; north-westerly gales 7 changing to south-westerly.' The barometer has still a falling tendency j. but is likely to rise smartly within 48 hours, and a cold snap may be expected shortly. TO-DAY'S FORECAST. .Westerly strong winds to gale, and veering by west to south. The weather appears likely to be cloudy and unsettled. Heavy rain is to be expected, with rivers flooded, and the weather will probably become colder shortly. Barometer, falling; but rising after about 24 to 36 hours.
