SINGLE MEN TO SEEK WORK ELSEWHERE.

At the Miners' Union meeting last night 250 men were present Iveen disappointment was expressed at tiie correspondence from the department, the meeting being of the opinion that the agreement had been literally torn up. ' ,- , , It was decided that lock-out pay, be on the scale of 30s for married men with 2s 6cl for each child up to four in number, with a maximum of £2; single men, 20s per week; to lie paid on or about Tuesday. All locked-out members are to report to the union office once a week. A resolution was also put and unanimously carried that the recommendation of the Lock-out Committee "that all single men without dependents be asked to seek work elsewhere," be agreed to. The position is regarded as very serious by the union, and the men expressed' a determination not to work the popper machines singlehanded, owing to their danger. Later.

There aro no further developments in connection with the trouble here. The Hon. J. Colvin, Minister for Minos, who arrived last night to mediate, to-day visited several of the road works in company with the town councillors.
