Auckland, March 26. On Wednesday night, the master ol the scow Barrier developed a violent torm of mania. It i s stated that without provocation he ferociously attacked the mate, who, in self-defence was f orC ed to handle hie assailant very roughly with his fists.
The master of the scow was placed on the steamer Waitangi, bound for Auckland. Off Cape ColviUe he jumped overboard.
A boat was lowered smartly, and as the man swam strongly in the wake of the steamer he was picked up and got aboard.
On the arrival of the Weatangi in town he was brought hefore tihe Court and remanded to a mental hospital for observation.
