"Out of sight, out of mind," is a phrase that has .the value of a proverb; but it does not fit the case of Theodore Roosevelt, ex-President of U.S.A., who has gone a-huntiug big game in Central Africa. Occasionally we are -asked for the latest news of the doings of the Australian cricketers in England or for the results of a race meeting somewhere in New Zealand — and we have also been asked if there is "any word of what Roosevelt is doing in Africa." Apparently there -axe scores to be made in Darkest Africa as, well as on tilie fields of Duskiest England. It was cabled the other day that Mr Roosevelt had arrived at Nairobi, whence the party made for from Mombasa in April. The real start of the big game hunt was to b© from Nairobi, but, as we -had word previously, there were apparently some lions, in the path on the way up. At Nairobi, Mr William McMillan — the big game expert, as mighty a hunter even as Selous, who is also in the party — lias a luxuriously fitted lodge, wheh the ex-President was, to make his head-

quarters. Mr McMillan, who spent the winter shooting with Lord Minto, Viceroy, in India, joined tho Ameri- . can party at Mombasa, and acted as guide into the interior. From Nairobi, Mr Cunningham, a noted African guide, took charge of the Roosevelt expedition j and it is about time the enterprising newspaper men sent us along a record of the lions, elephants, rhinoceruses, etc., that have fallen to the guns of the Strenuous J One ;
