DESTROYED BY FIRE.
SIX-ROOMED HOUSE IN CHURCHER STREET. Just before 1 o'clock this morning a fire was discovered in a six-roomed house in Churcher street, owned by Mr B. Gould and occupied by Mr Jaa. Stobie. An alarm was at once . and members of the brigade hurried to the scene of the fire, taking a i reel with them. It was of course ! found that the water mains are not extended along ■ Churcher-atreet, and the firemen were handicapped to that extent. By the time the men reached the spot the fire had gained too great' a hold for any sal/v^o operaI tious to be performed, -ml tlie house and contents were comple~e!.y destroyed. Mr and Mrs Stobie were away at the time, and no one was stiyhig in the house. There is there c ->4 no accounting for the origin of tlia fire. ; The house was insurid f.n- jL'SOO, j but at present it is impossible to say , whether or not the rurniVre was 1 insured. About three months ago -\ fire was discovered under the floor of tnc of [ the rooms in the same bouse, but it was extinguished before smv danr^e was done.
