MANAWATU COUNTY COUNCIL.

ITS MONTHLY MEETING. The ordinary meeting of the Manawatu County Council was held to-day. Prosent.-Crs J. G. Wilson (chairman) f Kendall, Barber, Dallton, McenZl6 'CORRESPONDENCE. The following letters were dealt From the Treasury, refunding £8 9s paid-ons on tho tramwaFroni the Audit Office, returning half-yearly balance-sheet for. period ending September 30, 1908. From the Department of Lands, with reference to tho road through section 153, Block 1., Kairanga stating that a tracing of the road laid off by Mr Drummond, where it leaves the Feilding-Awahuri road, would reauire to be done by a private raughtsman, at a cost of ss, on receipt of which amount the Chief Surveyor would have it made. From the District Road Engineer, Wellington, with reference to . the Shannon road deviation, acknowledging receipt of tracings, schedule, and a consent from Messrs Stevens, Eastow. and Austin. He returned same for signatures. On search being made ihe found that there was a caveat- lodged against a portion of the land, also that the Bank of New Zealand He did not find any portion entered as being sold to Mr W. E. Barber, so it could not yet have been registered. He asked for Mr Barber's signature, and stated he would obtain the signature of the Bank manager. From same, enclosing two forms of consent which must be endorsed on all copies of plans forwarded to the office for the taking, closing, or deviation of roads under the Land Act. 1908. From the Traffic Manager, Wellington, stating that the new time-table would operate on and after February, and the running of the 1.40 p.m. train from Himatangi to Foxton and the 3.30 from Foxton to Himatangi on •Duepday and Thursday instead of Tuesday only was approved. From the Deeds Registry Office, Wellington, with reference to section » 86, Block XIV., Oroua S.D., stating it was advisable to instruct some one to attend personally at the office and make the tracing. From Mr G. F. Robertson, District Road Engineer, a telegram dated February 8, stating *he had just been notified the Ohakea money had been passed for payment, being balance for further planting. From Clerk, ' Rangitikei County Council, enclosing statement of expenditure on Bulls bridge and protective works, from March 7 to November 25, 1908. The Manawatu County Council's share was £5 0s sd. From same, stating that the Chairman and Cr. Fraser had been appointed by the Rangitikei County Council to confer re the proposed extension into Bulls of the Sanson tramFrom Clerk, Horseshoe Land Drainage Board, stating the drain through Mr W. R. Anderson's property had been completed and asking tor £6 Council's share of cost. From Mr S. W. Fitzherbert, solicitor, Feilding, forwarding., on behalf of ratepayers in Puketapu Special Rating District: (1) Ratepayers 1 consent to the levy of a special rate to repay the sum of £400 borrowed for the purpose of forming, metalling, and re-grading the road running over the hill from Glasgow Terrace to Ranfurly Road. It was proposed to call the road "Tiroroa road." (2) Dedication by Messrs Fitzherbert and others and Mrs Sorley of the lauds in lot 16, D.P., 1137, and part lot 8, D.P., 1672. These parcels of land made the road continuous. (3) Plan showing area dedicated and fresh subdivision of lots 7 and 8 on Deposited Plan 1672. He requested consent to the dedication, and also asked that the Council proceed with the raising of the special loan as soon as possible. From Mr E. Newman, M.P., asking the Council to appoint a- representative to the Foxton Harbour Board. From Mr John Reid, accepting position of representative of the Council on the Feilding Technical School Committee. From Mr A. Richmond, enclosing an order G. P. Webster for £25 3s 3d on the Council. From Clerk, Moutoa Drainage Board, enclosing following . (resolution passed by the Board: "That the Engineer be asked to prepare necessary sketch plans of proposed bridges over road at Lang|ley s and Kari Kari drains, and of Nye's gravel pit, for 'approval of Manawatu Council." He suggested that the Engineer, should inspect the sites of the bridges. It was understood the roads were in the Manawatu country, and would be under their jurisdiction. From Mr E. Morse^ Sanson, asking permission to take water from the engine-shed tanks. He proposed to connect his tanks to those of the en-gine-shed with a one-inch pipe, and erect a water trough in front of his hotel for the use of the public.
