Dc4ds (Zukertort open--1 ing): Edwards sacrificed a bishop for _ two pawns <m the nineteenth move, and 1 gradually forced his opponent to resign, on the. fiftieth more. : Griorson v. Forsytth (Grecos Counter Gambit) : The players could mot make any headway against each other, and a draw was agreed upon at tihe thirtysixth move. ~ - • Mason v. Kelling (Zuketort open- . ing): No material ■advantage ihas as yet been gained on either side. ; The game was unfinished, and was adjourned til Wednesday might, the evening play being assigned to the second round. A Barnes v. Davis (Ruy Lo^ez) : A stiff game., solidly played. Indications " point to a draw. The game is unfinished, and adjourned to Wednesday night, owing to the commencement' of the second found. The Rev. Mr Fox a bye. The second round resulted as fol- . lows:— - Kelling v. Davies (Ruy Lopez): KeHling had a pawn advantage on the 28th move. The game stands adjourned, 'unfinishedj to Wednesday night. Mason and Fox- (Zuketort opening) : On the 25th move, Fox overlooked an atack^on his quen, and resigned a few moves later. Dodds v. Grierson (Guioco Piano): Grierson, in capturing a couple of pawns, gave his opponent an opening for a fierce attack, which resulted in Grierson's resignation on the 26th movo. Forsyth v. Barnes (King's Gambit declined) : On the 24th move, Forsyth was a pawn up, with a somewhat cramped position. The game being unfinished, stands adjourned until _ Wednesday night.
