The ferry steamer, Frederick Davis, which was purchased for the Richmond river run in the Melbourne service, while voyaging to Melbourne, sank when 30 miles south of the Clarence Heads in heavy Aveather. The crew of seven landed safely by a boat, but were in a very exhausted condition. Advice has been received that the Norwegian steamer Solglint was wrecked while sealing at Crozet Island. She was damaged while entering an uncharted channel, and was beached in order to prevent her sinking. A portion of the stores was landed before a heavy sea broke the Solglint up. The crew of 70 remained on the island for a month before being rescued by two sailing schooners. They have been land* ed at Durban.
