CANTERBURY v. WELLINGTON.

The annual Canterbury-Wellington contest took pUaoe at Christchurch. during the holidays. Canterbury, in its first effort, scored 388 (A. Anthony 104, A. E. Ridley 82, Dam Reese 51), and Wellington responded with 220 (J. A. Bruce 66 not out, F. A. Midlane 51, Cobcroft 32). In their second innings Canterbury has five wickets down for 149 (Reese 69 not out). Christchurch, December 28. Canterbury resumed its second innings against Welington in fine wea. ther. The overnight's score was five wickets for 52 runs, and the local men had a lead of ° 168 on the first innings. With eight wickets down for 164 runs, Canterbury declared its innings closed, leaving Wellington three and a half hours to make 333 to win. Hickson and Bruce opened steadily, but Bruce was clean bowled by Humphrey. 12—1—4. Mahoney and Hickson were still in with 13 runs each (total 30), at 12.30 o'clock. match was resumed to-day. Later.
