IN THE BUSH.
MORE DETAILS OF THE SCOTT MISADVENTURES. [P£B PB&SS ASSOCIATION.] Gisborne, December 24. The Herald's Frasertown correspondent telegraphs that Dr Scott and . his daughter have recovered from their rough experience. They were three days out in the bush, having missed the trail to the lake, making a similar mistake to that of Mr Witty which occurred twelve months ago. The doctor had a. good supply, of tabloid food and plasmon biscuits, etc., but suffered inconvenience through being unable to light a fire. He and his daughter scrambled down the creeks leading into the Whakatane River, and became very footsore. -On the third day it took them six hours to travel three miles to a native clearing, where they found a Maori family camped. A native pilotted them back to the lake, which they made without great difficulty until the Anawana crossing was reached. There Miss Scott's horse fell, and the young lady received a nasty' wetting and shaking. They subsequently mistook the track, and had a nasty experience round a papa-f aced > rock. It may be mentioned that Dr. Mason, chief Health Officer, and Dr. Buck also had a very rough experience on the track from Rotorua a few weeks ago. . The Government should certainly remove the impression given in the tourist guide that the road is fit for bicycle traffic. It is not safe for travellers to come through from Rotorua to Waikaremoana without an experienced guide.
