Still Cabinet-making?^
Amongst the things that are being eagerly looked, for by many people throughout the land is the announcement by the Premier of the names of his new Ministers, to fill the gaps caused hy the retirement of Mr HallJones and the defeat of Mr McNab. It seems as if the Premier is keeping back the portfolios so as tb make New Year gifts of them to the fortunate men upon whom his "choice will fall, for Sir Joseph .Ward has declared that the selections wei*? made some time ago. Judging by the Straws along the currents of comments in JMinisterial journals, the men who are strongest in the running are Mr Tom Mackenzie, who is said to be the coming Minister of Lands, and Mr Roderick McKenzie," «s Minister of Public Works and Mines. But against this rumour is another to the effect that Sir Joseph's flying visit to Auckland, from which he passed through Feilding to-day, had something to do with his Cabinet-making operations. As the Premier had selected his first
Ministry long before it was a__.ou_eed, it ls most probable that the new Ministers already have every reason for enjoying a Merry Christmas and to expect a happy New Year. They know.
