AWAHURI SPORTS.
Tho celebration of St. Patrick's Day by tho Awahuri Sports Club yesterday proved very successful, although the .attendance was .hardly up to tiie average. The weather could not bo improved upon, and tho Feilding Band, under Mr it. i\ Haybittle, disj coursed sweet music for the multitude. ! Somo good competition was shown in ! tho hunters' competition, and thera iwas considerable disappointment in the piizo not being awarded to Mr L. McJvelvie's Hailstone, Mr Hartley's Vendetta beng declared tho winner. When tho cup was presented by the President of tho Club (Mr C. H. Tarrant), cheers wero given for the owner, judges and president. Mr Hill, owner of Lady ben Sen, the winner of tho pony jump, was also presented with a cup. The oihciaJs carried out their duties satisfactorily, tho Presi- ! dent leaving nothing undone to ensuro success. The judges wero Messrs D. Thompson and Whisker for tho horse events, Messrs J. McLean, A. R. Moore, and ii. T. Sanson for the trotting, running and cycling events. Mr John Collingwood acted as handicapper and starter, Mr E. H. Rogers was secretary.
