THE VOUCHER CASE.
Telegraph Press Association Copyright Wellington, August 30. In the House this afternoon the Speaker read the report of the Auditor-General on the inquiry into the alleged Seddon voucher. The Auditor General reported : — " That during the whole period of Capcain Seddon's employment in the public service, no voucher was ever issued and passed through the Treasury for the payment to him for organisation or re-organisation of the Defence stores ; that no such voucher exists, and that no such payment was ever made." Mr Seddon moved that the report and evidence do he on the table, and be printed, and that consideration of the same be fixed for next sitting day. Mr Taylor gave notice to move the following amendment : "In view of tho failure of the private inquiry held by the Auditor-General under the restricted order of reference designed by the Premier to discover the voucher, which Messrs Larcombe, West, Willis and Lundon, four ex. perienced and reputable Civil Servants in the Christchurch Post j Office, swear they handled, examined and discussed, this douse is of opinion that the present unsatisfactory position of the question in dispute should be met by the appointment of a public inquiry with a full power to investigate, call for evidence upon oath, to order the production of persons and papers and the parties concerned, or to permit counrcl representing them to appear." Mr Seddon's motion was agreed to on the voioes.
