NORTH ISLAND BOWLING ASSOCIATION.

* The Forthcoming Tournament. | A raosfc important event in the history of bowling in this district will take place next week, namely, the forthcoming tournament to be held in Palmerston under the auspices of the North Island Bowling Association. The tournament will commence on Monday next, and will be continued the whole of the week. So far the following clubs have entered : — Wellington, Newtown, Gisborne, Thorndon, Victoria, Whataupoko, Carterton Hawera, Stratford, Patea, Blenheim, Wanganui, Pahiatua, Feilding, Kaiti (Gisborne) and Palmerston North. In addition entries are expected from Napier, Bluff Hill, Hastings, Masterton, Dannevirke, Petone, Ponsonby, New Plymouth, Dunedin, Kaituna and Invercargill ; also from other clubs in the Auckland province. This year a bye tournament is being held, so that only one rink from each club can compete. At the outset it was intended to utilise the Feilding and Palmerston North greens for the tournameot, but this necessitated conditions which would have caused some inconvenience, hence the decision to hold the tournament on the Palmerston greens. In the past it has been the custom to play club against club, but at this and future tournaments the competing clubs will be divided into two sections, an A and a B section, and will play to a finish, and the winning rink in each must play three games to decide the championship. At the conclusion of the Champion Fours, the Huddart-Parker competition will be held. The Cup is at present held by the Newtown Club, and is competed for yearly. The bowlers selected to represent the Palmerston Club at the Tournament are Messrs Banting, Nash, Drew, and Mowlem. It was reported that the donations promised to the fund amounted to about £100.— P.N. Times.
