Renter's agency states that 500 Boers attempted to cut the water mains at Town's river railway station, about 45 miles from Worcester, with the object of depriving the railway of water. CAPTURE BY VICTORIANS. Colonel Umphelly's Victorians cap- J tared a number of excellent cattle near Rustenburg. DE WET ENRAGED. De Wet is enraged at the circulation of Paul Botha's pamphlet, and vows that he will shoot the author. Mr Kruger, on being interviewed, approved of De Wet's shooting of the peace envoys as a proper revenge for Lieut. Cardna's execution. [Note.— Lieut.- Cardna was shot for being implicated in a plot at Pretoria, some months ago, for the assassination of Lord Roberts and other British officers.] ENTHUSIASTIC RESPONSE OF VOLUNTEERS. Volunteer regiments are responding to Lord Roberts' appeal with enthusiasm. Manitoba offers a thousand shots and Ottawa several thousand. AUSTRALIAN CONTINGENT. Sir Alfred Milner has cabled that the s.s. Orient will convey the Victorian Contingent for South Africa. 5000 YEOMANRY. The War Office is enlisting 5000 Yeomanry for a year or the duration of the war.
MORE MEN IF REQUIRED. Brisbane, January 17. Speaking at a banquet, Mr Philips said that if the request for ten thousand troops referred to in the press cables was correct, bis State would contribute its quota, RETURNING COLONIALS. Fbeemantle, January 16. Colonel Francis and Trooper Wilkinson, New Zealanders, invalided from the Cape, have arrived by tbe China. The former took ill a few days ago and is confined to his cabin. THE CHARGES AGAINST COLONEL ROBIN. Wellington, This Day. Colonel Penton has received a letter from Brigadier-General Mahon in reference to the strictures upon Colonel Robin. The General says there is no ground for the charges.
