At tbe recent civil s^-ssi >n of the Supreme Court, ex-Judge Martin is said to bave made some remarks concerning marri-ne which were thought rather extraordinary at the time. During ths hearing of a .londrr case one wi'ness tried o discredit another by saying " he was living wi;h a wo mon to whom he was no*; married." Judge Martin rebuked the witness, and went on to say it was purel> a matter cf opinion whether a marriage ceremony was necessary or not. For himself hs thought none the less of _ a man, and on tbis account solely wou'd not discredit a witness's testimo y.
