In ol&ss 4, a prise of £20 was offered for the beet th taring machine driven by mechanical power, fir which there were six entries. In class 5 £10 was to go to the best machine worked by hand power ; five competitors entered for this Considerable interest has been evinced in the improvement of sheep • shearing ma-» cbineri dnrin? rooent years, more especially since the advent of the Barton - Gillette Company. It may be remembered that this Company received tbe Royal Society's muoh covettedmedal at Maidatone last year, snd that awaH h confirmed by tbe fact that the 6am<j firm— the BartonGillette Horse-clipping and fhe^psheanng Compauy,* Limited, of 108, New Oxford Street, London— was awarded tbe only prizaj in tha oom petitions above referred to. The judges were Mr Jamea P. Oase and Mr 0. W. Leet« Kaye, the trial taking place befjre the Prince of Wales and tho Duke of York Practical demonstrations were also given on i live sheep daily daring the show.
