Chess Tournament.
Telegraph. Press Association. Copyright Dunedin, December 29. At the Chess Congress L. A. Cleland and J. Mouat met in the fourth round. Mouat adopted the French defence, and Cleland mated on the 31st move. This win makes Cleland champion of New Zealand for 1899.
