Sydney, This Day. Federal election writs have been issued in Victoria and New South Wales. Hobart, This Day. The Federal council is opened and Mr Forrest elected president. Melbourne, This Day. Armstrong, the missing steward of the Oceana has surrendered to the police. He states he knew nothing about the robbery. He has been detained as a deserter from the steamer pending enquiries. The preliminary Government returns of the wheat harvest estimate the yield at 6,775,000 bushels, an average of 4-12 bushels to the acre. Brisbane, January 20. Mr Moorhead has issued a circular to the shareholders of the Queensland National Bank stating that he is a candidate for reelection to the directorate. This is regarded as an indication that the Royal Commissioners' scheme for reconstruction has not been fully adopted.
