Mr Dixon, of Bunnythorpe, was the speaker at the P.S.A. meeting yester-t day afternoon, in Short's H^all, and took for the suqject of his address " Decision of Character." Thespeakei* g commenced his discourse by: showing f how Cromwell, Wellington, Nelson, and many other men of mark in the world's history, had, by sheer firmness of character and keeping a desired object steadfastly in view t gained the end of their ambition. In contrasting the character of Cromwell with that ef the weak and vacillating Charles, he pointed out to his hearers how the former triumphed over his opponent by concentrating all his energies on . the attainment of a desired end. He then alluded to Colvert, a humble draper's apprentice, who, by strict integrity of character, made his way in the world. Mr Dixon concluded a very powerful address, by exhorting those present to strengthen their character by a tirm adherence to all that is manly, and to show by their lives that " deojsion of character " was ■ , their motto as opposed to the habit / of procrastination; „-,Mr Downey, the- I' Secretary, stated that at a Committee ' meeting held last week it was decided "* ■fchat members should contribute threepence per week towards a' prize fund to be expended in purchasing suitable books for presentation to those who were the most regular itx their weekly .1 attendances.
